Network Metadata Model

The network metadata model (NMM) is based on the ILTER and LTER Europe requirements. It is meant to collect basic information on the network itself as well as the associated information provided within DEIMS. This includes the links to associated persons as well as research sites and datasets. For Networks managed as specific entries within DEIMS the affiliation of Research sites can be managed and the status of affiliation can be changed. The content type Network applies therefore to ILTER/LTER networks especially.

NAME

1. NETWORK TITLE
Element 1.1 Title
Definition Provides a name for the network that is being documented as is known within the community described in detail by following elements. Title is a characteristic, and often unique and is the most informative element of a metadata record and usually with the highest priority as search engines go to this element.
Recommendation & Hints Title has to be concise and precisely describing the point. It should not contain unexplained acronyms or abbreviations. It is recommended a maximum length of 200 characters and keeping the similarity with the title of the network in the sense of the ‘official naming’ established in the community.

ILTER REGIONAL GROUP AND STATUS

4. ILTER REGIONAL GROUP
Element 4.1 ILTER Regional group
Definition Information in which 'ILTER Regional Group' the national LTER networks. If the network is not listed within ILTER, than the field is left blank.
Recommendation & Hints If the network is registered within ILTER, please select the ILTER regional group from thre reference list.
Format Reference list

5. NETWORK STATUS
Element 5.1 Network status
Definition Information on the status of the network. This information needs to be reviewed by the regional network managers, e.g. TLER Europe.
Recommendation & Hints Please select the status of the network from the list.
Format Reference list
Multiplicity [1] - single and mandatory element
Status LTER Europe mandatory
Status ILTER mandatory
Example Formal LTER/LTSER
Reference List
  • Formal LTER/LTSER - the network is a formal member of the ILTER network. In this case also the 'ILTER Regional Group' needs to be provided.
  • Candidate LTER - the network applied for the membership in the ILTER network and has candidate status. In this case also the 'ILTER Regional Group' needs to be provided.
  • Potential LTER - the network is of potential interest for the long term ecosystem research but will not be a member of the ILTER network, e.g. AnaEE, ICOS
  • Inactive - the network is currently inactive. This status is set by the DEIMS Information Manager.
  • At Risk - the network is at risk and not fully functioning.
