Person Metadata Model

The person metadata model (PMM) serves several purposes. First, it provides a source for dataset metadata creators, contact points, and metadata providers (basic contact information). The required information is a surname and email address. The person MD model apply for physical persons, e.g. researcher, as well as for administrative persons, e.g. funding organisation. In this context, organisations are considered to be persons. For an “organizational” person, the organization name is entered in the surname field.
In addition, the person component serves as a personnel directory, allowing individuals to add information about their specialities, subjects investigated, their national LTER network, and networks in which they participate in addition to LTER-Europe. A photograph can also be uploaded.
Persons can be associated with datasets, research sites and publications. In order to be associated with a dataset, the person needs to be selected either as a metadata creator, contact point, or metadata provider when creating a dataset metadata record. In order to be associated with a publication, the person would need to be entered as an author when creating a bibliographic entry. The bibliographic component is not part of the community profile, but is available for use.
