History of Site: 

Horn Island LTER site is located within Cape Horn National Park, coordinated by the Chilean National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) in the Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve. It is part of the Cape Horn LTER Network, coordinated by Omora Park LTER, the Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program, Universidad de Magallanes, the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity and the University of North Texas. Climatological and hydrological stations are being implemented to monitor global change (i.e. global warming, pollution, introduced species) in these sensitive sub-Antarctic ecosystems, along with biological monitoring, including ornithological assessments, freshwater and terrestrial ecology.
